My day went something like this:
Blas gets up to run with Team FDC at approximately 5:45 a.m. In my sleepy stupor, I think it is the middle of the night and ask him if he has set his alarm to wake up for the run. He gently tells me, "Uh, my alarm went off and I'm getting ready to go." Thinking this must be a dream, I pull up the covers and seconds later hear, "Mommy!!!!" Okay, it wasn't really seconds later. It was 7:10 a.m. and Christian was awake and wanted permission to leave his room. My mumble was apparently loud enough for his supersonic hearing and soon I had a four and a half year old human heater snuggled up next to me. I'm pretty sure I dozed periodically while Christian is talking non-stop, because next thing I know it is 7:45 and I'm apparently discussing Jake and The Neverland Pirates and whether the Disney people named the sidekick "Cubby" because he's "Chubby." I force myself out of bed thinking that if I don't get in the shower immediately, it might not happen at all.
I start to feel human again, get the baby up, changed, fed and start to make breakfast. Blas arrived home from the run and politely requested (strongly suggested?) bacon and eggs. We all eat, I change the baby again, Blas gives me an assist with getting Christian dressed, and I spend 5 minutes pretending to go to the bathroom, just to get some peace and quiet. Blas then departs for 18 holes of golf and I'm off with both boys to Pinecrest Gardens for a class playdate. 4 hours(!) later, we leave the park, I feed and change the baby and put him down for a nap. I make lunch for Christian and myself. We eat and color until about 4:30. I try really hard to convince Christian he needs a little nap (I fail) and then I decide that if I don't wake the baby, he may sleep until tomorrow. So it is now 5:00, I wake Connor and get him fed - miraculously he does NOT need his fourth change of clothes for the day - and Blas FINALLY arrived home around 5:30ish. I remind Blas that I need to have some time to exercise. He's exhausted from the run and golf, looks at both boys eager for Daddy time, and says, "Only for 30 minutes, right?" Grrrr...
Today's 30 minutes (which were actually 40 minutes) were spent at the UM gym doing the "Ibis Express", a circuit of 11 machines chosen to hit all the major muscle groups in 15-20 minutes. The instructions are to do one set of 10-12 reps on each machine. I like to do two sets of 15 reps on each machine adding 5-10 lbs. on the second set. So that's what I did and I felt great...
Some observations from the UM gym:
- Sorority girls still work out in full make-up
- The faux-hawk is apparently really popular (and shouldn't be)
- Slip-on Vans are the footwear of choice for the frat boys pretending they're at the gym to work out (and not simply to check out the sorority girls working out in full make-up)
- The over-40 crowd does NOT believe in wiping butt sweat off of the equipment (so gross)
- The over-60 crowd does NOT believe in following the numerical order of the Ibis Express
Happy training,
Kellee
