I'm Still Alive!

Ok, so I totally missed a post yesterday.  I did an abs and arms workout and then got into bed (where I do my best blogging) and then Blas got a phone call and left the bedroom and then I woke up at 6 a.m.  What???  (P.S.  How was that for a run-on sentence?)  I don't think I have fallen asleep like that in months if not years!  So my apologies for the missed post on what I think was supposed to be my 30th DAY!

In any event, whatever Blas watched on TV after I fell asleep was on CBS because the Early Show came on when I turned the TV on this morning.  I don't usually watch AM television, but I'm glad I did... here is the story that came on while I was getting dressed:

Study Links Sitting Around to CANCER

It is a pretty short article, but I'll summarize it for you.
  • A study was done analyzing the results of 200 cancer-related studies conducted worldwide.
  • The analysis showed that physical inactivity raises your risk of developing cancer.
  • Physical inactivity may be the cause of nearly 92,000 new colon and breast cancer cases annually.
  • The study will be presented at the annual conference for the American Institute for Cancer Research in Washington, D.C.
The doctor who discussed the study on the Early Show gave these three tips:
  1. Exercise 30 minutes 5 days per week
  2. Take a brisk walk
  3. GET UP FROM YOUR DESK
I highlight number 3 because I'm guilty of it, too.  I have had days where I get into the office, sit down at my desk and don't get up until lunch time or I have to pee (whichever comes first).  Then I sit back down at my desk and don't get up again until I have to pee again or leave for the day (again, whichever comes first).  Though not included in the article, the doctor recommended getting up from your desk at least once per hour.  This is something that I started doing today, and I suggest all of my desk-bound friends try to do the same.

The Future

But first, reflecting on the past.  I've noticed a huge difference in how I feel after incorporating 30 minutes of exercise for 30 days.  Even when I've been sick, I have felt better after exercising.  I've lost weight (4 lbs., according to my scale this morning), I sleep better, I make better eating decisions, the quality of my workouts has improved, my arms are shrinking (my abs still need major help), I have increased/improved my (ahem) "regularity" (Jamie Lee Curtis would be so proud), and I just overall feel good.  But, if I post every day as I have been doing, that is a lot of time that could be spent instead with my husband and kids, doing more exercise, sleeping, etc.  So, I'm going to continue with the plan, but cut back a little on the posting.

The goals remain the same and I'll continue to update you all on them.  Lose the final 15 lbs. before Christmas (4 down, 11 to go).  Finish the ING Miami Half Marathon in 2:51:24 or faster.  Be happy. Be healthy.  Be a good example to my kids.

And now, drum roll please, The Far Future!

Talk about a bucket list... I will be HERE in September 2012:

Kilimanjaro National Park poster

Remember when I told you that I had a teaser for something really cool in the works?  Well, this is it!  I will be participating in Teal Climb 2012, where I will climb Mt. Kilimanjaro and raise this flag for ovarian cancer awareness at the summit:

I totally CANNOT WAIT for this new adventure!

Happy training,
Kellee
